Pencils are those old friends that you can take on holidays in a "pencil case" or a beauty bag. They don't need much, but they always express a lot with a rough line. Unlike children they don't grow up, quite the opposite, they get smaller and smaller until you can't sharpen any more. The are tough wood on the outside, but their graphite heart can break easily.
